{"id":81,"date":"2007-09-17T19:39:18","date_gmt":"2007-09-18T03:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/timony.com\/mickzblog\/2007\/09\/17\/ubuntu-gutsy-gnome-fonts\/"},"modified":"2007-09-17T19:39:18","modified_gmt":"2007-09-18T03:39:18","slug":"ubuntu-gutsy-gnome-fonts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timony.com\/mickzblog\/2007\/09\/17\/ubuntu-gutsy-gnome-fonts\/","title":{"rendered":"Gnome Fonts too big in Ubuntu Gutsy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I upgraded my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anandtech.com\/mobile\/showdoc.aspx?i=2296\">Dell 700m<\/a> laptop from Ubuntu Feisty to Ubuntu <a title=\"Ubuntu Gutsy\" href=\"https:\/\/launchpad.net\/ubuntu\/gutsy\">Gutsy.<\/a> Gutsy is the current developemnt (beta) release of <a title=\"Ubuntu\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ubuntu.com\/\">Ubuntu<\/a> <a title=\"Linux\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linux-foundation.org\">Linux<\/a> and is planned to be released in October of 2007. After upgrading to Gutsy and restarting my laptop many of the fonts were <strong>too<\/strong> big.<\/p>\n<p>To correct this you may need to set the <a title=\"DPI\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dots_per_inch\">DPI<\/a> to 96. To see why read this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/primates.ximian.com\/~federico\/news-2007-01.html\">http:\/\/primates.ximian.com\/~federico\/news-2007-01.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/scanline.ca\/dpi\/\">http:\/\/scanline.ca\/dpi\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To change the DPI go to the Font settings applet; click on System, then Preferences, then Appearance:<a title=\"Menu\" href=\"http:\/\/timony.com\/mickzblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/screenshot-0.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/timony.com\/mickzblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/screenshot-0.png\" alt=\"Menu\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the Window that opens click on the <em>Fonts<\/em> tab, and then click on the <em>Details<\/em> button on the lower right:<a title=\"Gnome Font Selector\" href=\"http:\/\/timony.com\/mickzblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/screenshot.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/timony.com\/mickzblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/screenshot.png\" alt=\"Gnome Font Selector\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note: Your fonts may be different than what I have set.<\/p>\n<p>On the <em>Details<\/em> window the <em>dots per inch<\/em> in the upper left may be set to something other than 96.
